Our Story
Chartered on November 12, 2022, UAP Bulacan Singkaban is the 192nd chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) and the sixth UAP chapter in the province of Bulacan. Though among the youngest in the A2a chapters, initially composed of 35 charter members, UAP Bulacan Singkaban has been an active player and advocate of the architectural profession through its various programs and activities, hence recognized as an Outstanding New Chapter during the 2024 UAP National Awards.
The idea of creating a university based UAP chapter in Bulacan started way back in 2017 in an informal meeting among faculty members of the Bulacan State University which was suggested by Ar. Ma. Saturnina Parungao. Though it did not materialize and was put on hold for some years due to the pandemic, the yearning to create one has never been lost.
In 2022, the idea was revived when Ar. Parungao created a Facebook Group Chat on April 6, 2022, where members of the group were consulted if they are interested and willing to be part in the organization of a new UAP Chapter in Bulacan. The idea was well received by the group chat and the majority are willing to be members of the proposed new chapter. Months of silence have passed but and no progress was made. Not until June 1, 2022, when Ar. Owen Tolentino and Ar. Geronimo Lajom volunteered to do the leg work for the new chapter application to the UAP Headquarters.
Ar. Tolentino then coordinated with UAP HQ through Ms. Liza Agbuya for the requirements and informed Ar. Anna Lisa Gonzalez, who was the incoming Chapter President of UAP Barasoain, of the plan to form a new chapter where bulk of the interested transferring members will be from UAP Barasoain Chapter. Ar. Gonzalez was very open to the idea because it was already the right time to form a new chapter since the chapter's membership has grown to around 500 members. She expressed her full support and willingness of UAP Barasoain to be the sponsoring chapter under her term.
Necessary documents and transfer forms are then given to the 35 interested architects to be filled out and signed. Ar. Parungao was nominated to be the group’s spokesperson for the new chapter application.
Possible chapter names were also suggested and UAP Bulacan Singkaban was the most favored being a Bulacan local artistic craft which will best represent the talent and creativity of the Bulacan architects inspired by how such a very simple material such as a bamboo can be transformed into a beautiful and artistic creation.
Design options for the chapter logo were requested from Ar. Mark Oxley Enriquez, Ar. Sherwin Crisostomo and Ar. Geronimo Lajom giving their own design interpretation that will best represent the ideals of the chapter. Ar Lajom’s Logo was favored by the majority as the most fitting design among the 5 options that were developed.
After all the necessary documentation was done and collated, on July 22, 2023, the group formally submitted its application to the UAP HQ. On August 25, 2022, in a board meeting by the UAP National Board of Directors, the application of UAP Bulacan Singkaban Chapter was approved through a motion raised by A2a District Director Christopher Coronel.
On November 12, 2022, UAP Bulacan Singkaban was chartered as the 192nd Chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines at the Madera Grove Social Hall, San Pablo, Malolos City, Bulacan under the theme, "Pinagbigkis" (Bound Together).
